Abe Curry's Eagle

Description

When Abe Curry constructed the Warm Springs Hotel in 1861 several miles East of the burgeoning community that was to become Carson City, he capped off the building with a statue of an eagle; some historians say it was built of wood and others cite the native sandstone. Be that as it may, the above photograph shows a statue purported to be Abe Curry's in 1972, located atop the Eagle's building at Carson and Robinson Sts, which building was either razed or incorporated into the Nugget expansion (another preservation felony).

With the approach of the Sesquicentennial (CC150), the location of that eagle statue, assuming it still exists, becomes of interest to those who appreciate the rich regional history of Eagle Valley. Are there any local Sherlock Holmes historical anthropologists who could ferret out the facts about this statue? If it still exists and is not exhibited, then perhaps an appropriate venue could be found if only for the sesquicentennial year. If it doesn't exist, perhaps a local sculptor would be interested in creating a new eagle from the original material, sandstone.

Do I hear huzzah, huzzah?
